I have been fascinated with the training of dogs since I was very young. Personally, I’m drawn to the Working or Herding breeds.
I took obedience classes with my first Doberman many years ago and was hooked. At the time my children were small and it was a few years before I had the time to get more involved with training. When I bought my first Shepherd. I was planning on competing with her in obedience but I found Schutzhund and was fascinated by that. I competed and titled in that sport for 6 years with three different Shepherds. Then my interest turned to the Australian Cattle Dog, again, thinking of obedience competitions. Well, Wicca turned out to have such a tremendous amount of herding instinct that I just HAD to get her some sheep and take herding lessons!! I also promised Wicca’s breeder that I’d attempt to put a Conformation Championship on her and we are working at that at the moment. I can truthfully say that I never know in which direction my dogs will lead me, but I always enjoy the ride!!
